My journalism expertise and knowledge gained from my bachelor’s degree have given me the skill set to thrive in modern-day mass communication.
My most recent journalism experience was at the Glasgow Daily Times in Glasgow, Ky. From August 2013 to April 2014, I wrote news and feature stories, took photos, edited photos in Photoshop, copyedited pages, laid out pages in QuarkXPress, posted on social networking sites, and shot and edited video in iMovie. From January to May 2013, I was a features intern at The Daily Sentinel in Grand Junction, Colo. I also took photos, and shot and edited video. For two semesters, I was a reporter for Colorado Mesa University’s student newspaper.
In May 2013, I graduated cum laude from CMU. I received my degree in Mass Communication: Media Strategies and Applications. The curriculum taught me how to write and report for the media, take photos for print, write for public relations and how to use new media technology. When I was a junior, I was the secretary for the Society of Professional Journalists. In April 2013, my partner and I won the Mass Communication Student Showcase for our presentation, “Body Ideals and Selective Exposure.”
