sorrieMy journalism expertise and knowledge gained from my bachelor’s degree have given me the skill set to thrive in modern-day mass communication.
I am currently a reporter at the Cañon City Daily Record in Cañon City, Colorado. I write one to four stories a day on a variety of subjects, including breaking news. I also take photographs, post to social media sites, edit and publish local law enforcement’s daily activity logs and edit newspaper copy.
From August 2013 to April 2014 at the Glasgow Daily Times in Glasgow, Kentucky, I wrote news and feature stories, took photos, edited photos in Photoshop, edited newspaper copy, laid out pages in QuarkXPress and posted on social networking sites. From January to May 2013, I was a features intern at The Daily Sentinel in Grand Junction, Colorado. I also took photos, and shot and edited video. For two semesters, I was a reporter for Colorado Mesa University’s student newspaper.
In May 2013, I graduated cum laude from CMU. I received my degree in Mass Communication: Media Strategies and Applications. The curriculum taught me how to write and report for the media, take photos for print, write for public relations and how to use new media technology. When I was a junior, I was the secretary for the Society of Professional Journalists.
